\u25cf \u00c9milie Picard<\/a> (*1984 Toulouse, lives and works in Strasbourg) is the ninth artist invited to show in the forward-thinking Degr\u00e9s Est \u2014 at the suggestion of Felizitas Diering, director of Frac Alsace. The painter presents an original and experimental installation, a stage within a larger ensemble that the artist is building place by place through a series of exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A regular participant in residency programs (Chamalot, La Source, Gedok Stuttgart, etc.) \u00c9milie Picard\u2019s practice revolves around painting. In her paintings and drawings, the artist is interested in the image as vestige, i.e. as a marker of time. Like an archaeologist, she collects found objects that she paints on a one-to-one scale; she then assembles them with naturalistic borrowings from ancient friezes; finally, she alters the legibility of the material by removing parts of it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For Degr\u00e9s Est, \u00c9milie Picard is creating her first mural. Made during the weeks preceding the opening, the fresco will be the result of a new formal experimentation, with the artist applying the process of ruin to the image itself, thereby evoking its transitory nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9milie Picard\u2019s paintings tell us about invisibility and degradation; of the strata that constitute the different landscapes we gaze at \u2014 whether they are real or virtual, figurative or abstract. Her paintings reveal these landscapes in all their alterity (in both senses of the word: degradation and eclecticism). As if these networks of lines painted on ancient frescoes, on exhibition walls, or on our screens, formed the cartography of a social landscape that is forever expanding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false,"raw":"\n

Habitu\u00e9e des programmes de r\u00e9sidences d\u2019artiste, \u00c9milie Picard d\u00e9veloppe une pratique de la peinture. L\u2019artiste s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 l\u2019image comme vestige et marqueur du temps. \u00c0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019une arch\u00e9ologue, \u00c9milie Picard collecte des repr\u00e9sentations d\u2019objets qu\u2019elle peint \u00e0 \u00e9chelle un, puis assemble des \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturalistes emprunt\u00e9s \u00e0 des frises antiques, avant d\u2019en alt\u00e9rer la visibilit\u00e9 par un retrait de mati\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour Degr\u00e9s Est, \u00c9milie Picard r\u00e9alise sa premi\u00e8re peinture murale. La fresque, r\u00e9alis\u00e9e pendant les semaines pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant l\u2019ouverture de l\u2019exposition, sera le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019une exp\u00e9rimentation formelle nouvelle dans laquelle l\u2019artiste appliquera le processus de la ruine \u00e0 l\u2019image \u2013 rappelant ainsi son caract\u00e8re transitoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9milie Picard nous parle \u00e0 travers la peinture d\u2019invisibilit\u00e9, de d\u00e9gradation\u2009; de ces strates qui constituent les paysages que l\u2019on regarde (r\u00e9els ou virtuels, figuratifs ou abstraits) dans leur alt\u00e9rit\u00e9 (dans les deux sens du terme\u2009: la d\u00e9gradation et l\u2019\u00e9clectisme).
