\u25cf Making use of her voice as a primary material the Norwegian artist Hanne Lippard (*1984) explores the social forms governing speech. Her work, in the form of sonic and sculptural pronouncements, alternately autobiographical and from mass media, probes the feminine voice as a tool of emancipation and of alienation, in times of hyper-connectivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a collection of works brought together under a title borrowed from the semiologist Roland Barthes, in his work A Lover\u2019s Discourse: Fragments<\/em>, the artist orchestrates the meeting between the body of the visitor, text, and public space.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The feminine voice has always been that of care (the voice of emotional space, of the domestic), of summons (prophecy, Pythie) or that of hysteria. Commercialized by the productivity of the modern world, the voice thus becomes that of the machine, then that of the service sector – that of the intelligent vocal personnel: GPS, smart speakers, answering machines. To an era of the anonymization of speech (Twitter) and of knowledge (Wikip\u00e9dia), from an erotisized disincarantion of the feminine voice (podcasts, dating apps), this is approached by Hanne Lippard by embodied means. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her first solo show in France, the artist proposes an experience that takes the form of a quest for empowerment. The language as skin <\/em>explores the notion of the anonymous, spearhead of the digital economy which is juxtaposed against that of the visitor.  How can one speak to a public without lumping it together into a homogenous audience? Conceived of as a phenomenon, which is to say a landscape that appears and disappears, the exhibition offers a meeting with the works based on the ephemeral model of a conversation. The body becomes a transactional object, an interface between he\/she who speaks and he\/she who listens, in the same way as the exhibition. The path finishes with an open platform, evoking the free-speech corners (structural space of free speech).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language as skin<\/em> puts in play the disobjectification of the artwork as much as that of the feminine body, in the time of a fourth wave of feminism. Through the display of our own planned obsolescence, Hanne Lippard invites us to rethink the exhibition as a utopic space, that of a possible emancipation in the face of a world in which a voice must be given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour sa premi\u00e8re exposition personnelle en France, l\u2019artiste propose une exp\u00e9rience de visite en forme de qu\u00eate d\u2019empowerment<\/em>. Le langage est une peau<\/em> explore la notion d\u2019anonymat, fer de lance de l\u2019\u00e9conomie digitale qu\u2019elle met en miroir avec celui du visiteur, conduisant \u00e0 sa propre obsolescence programm\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le langage est une peau<\/em> met en jeu la d\u00e9sobjectisation de l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art autant que celle du corps f\u00e9minin, \u00e0 l\u2019heure d\u2019une quatri\u00e8me vague f\u00e9ministe. Hanne Lippard invite \u00e0 repenser l\u2019exposition comme espace utopique, celui d\u2019une \u00e9mancipation possible face \u00e0 un monde dans lequel il faut donner voix.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Making use of her voice as a primary material the Norwegian artist Hanne Lippard (*1984) explores the social forms governing speech. Her work, in the form of sonic and sculptural pronouncements, alternately autobiographical and from mass media, probes the feminine voice as a tool of emancipation and of alienation, in times of hyper-connectivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a collection of works brought together under a title borrowed from the semiologist Roland Barthes, in his work A Lover\u2019s Discourse: Fragments<\/em>, the artist orchestrates the meeting between the body of the visitor, text, and public space.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The feminine voice has always been that of care (the voice of emotional space, of the domestic), of summons (prophecy, Pythie) or that of hysteria. Commercialized by the productivity of the modern world, the voice thus becomes that of the machine, then that of the service sector - that of the intelligent vocal personnel: GPS, smart speakers, answering machines. To an era of the anonymization of speech (Twitter) and of knowledge (Wikip\u00e9dia), from an erotisized disincarantion of the feminine voice (podcasts, dating apps), this is approached by Hanne Lippard by embodied means. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her first solo show in France, the artist proposes an experience that takes the form of a quest for empowerment. The language as skin <\/em>explores the notion of the anonymous, spearhead of the digital economy which is juxtaposed against that of the visitor.  How can one speak to a public without lumping it together into a homogenous audience? Conceived of as a phenomenon, which is to say a landscape that appears and disappears, the exhibition offers a meeting with the works based on the ephemeral model of a conversation. The body becomes a transactional object, an interface between he\/she who speaks and he\/she who listens, in the same way as the exhibition. The path finishes with an open platform, evoking the free-speech corners (structural space of free speech).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language as skin<\/em> puts in play the disobjectification of the artwork as much as that of the feminine body, in the time of a fourth wave of feminism. Through the display of our own planned obsolescence, Hanne Lippard invites us to rethink the exhibition as a utopic space, that of a possible emancipation in the face of a world in which a voice must be given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanne Lippard has shown her work in recent solo shows: KW, Berlin (2017), Kunsthalle de Stavanger, Norway (2018), Goethe Pop Up Institute, Minneapolis (2019), Furiosa, Monaco (2020), MUHKA, Anvers (2021) \u2026; and group shows: La Loge, Brussels (2018), Kunsthalle, Vienna (2018), Centre d\u2019art Albert Chanot, Clamart (2019), RIBOCA, Biennale de Riga (2020), Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Rochechouart (2020) etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
