At the heart of exhibition lies a selection of Christina Rambergs paintings and drawings, which are put in dialogue with artistic positions such as Alexandra Bircken, Sara Deraedt, Gaylen Gerber, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger, Konrad Klapheck, Ghislaine Leung, Senga Nengudi, Ana Pellicer, Richard Rezac, Diane Simpson, and Kathleen White, who extend Ramberg\u2019s understanding of the body as an environment that is closely intertwined with its surrounding, shaped by corsets, hairdos as well as behavioral conventions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cContaining, restraining, reforming, hurting, compressing, binding, transforming a lumpy shape into a clean smooth line\u201d\u2014 is how the American artist Christina Ramberg (1946\u20131995) once described the drawings of corsets in her sketchbooks. Ramberg was one of the most intriguing painters to emerge within a generation of Chicago Imagists. Operating under the influences of Surrealism, she painted cropped torsi, sharply delineated and bound in bizarre variations of corsets, bandages, and textures, that exude an unnerving calm burdened with a conflicted desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works by contemporary and historical positions that dialogically relate to Ramberg\u2019s works, ask about the structures that externally and internally determine our existence and articulate a relation of interdependence between the body and everyday objects, built constructions and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cContenir, ma\u00eetriser, retenir, remodeler, blesser, comprimer, lier, transformer une forme grumeleuse en une ligne lisse et nette\u201d, c\u2019est ainsi que Christina Ramberg parle de son travail. Influenc\u00e9e par le Surr\u00e9alisme, elle peint des bustes tronqu\u00e9s aux contours pr\u00e9cis, fa\u00e7onn\u00e9s par les corsets vestimentaires, mais aussi par leur pendant comportemental : les conventions sociales. Corps et objets subissent le m\u00eame traitement pictural dans ses peintures qui distillent un calme inqui\u00e9tant charg\u00e9 de d\u00e9sirs conflictuels.
Les autres artistes pr\u00e9sent\u00e9\u00b7es font \u00e9galement appara\u00eetre le corps comme une entit\u00e9 opaque, presque insondable, se d\u00e9pla\u00e7ant dans des structures qui le prot\u00e8gent et le conditionnent. Leurs exp\u00e9rimentations mettent en \u00e9vidence les intersections entre protection et restriction, entre machine et corps humain, entre soin (care) et technologie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poursuivant son exploration d\u2019autres g\u00e9n\u00e9alogies artistiques, le 49 Nord 6 Est-Frac Lorraine pr\u00e9sente une \u0153uvre \u00e9minemment actuelle, non seulement par son d\u00e9tachement des canons et r\u00e9f\u00e9rences du monde de l\u2019art, mais aussi par sa r\u00e9flexion sur les liens entre d\u00e9formation et optimisation du corps. Pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme une exposition dans l\u2019exposition, le travail de Christina Ramberg entre en dialogue avec l\u2019ensemble, pour faire appara\u00eetre des rapports entre les normes appliqu\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019espace, aux infrastructures et au d\u00e9sir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u21b3 L\u2019exposition est accompagn\u00e9e d\u2019une publication qui rassemble des essais d\u2019Anna Gritz, Larne Abse Gogarty et Judith Russi Kirshner, ainsi que des textes exp\u00e9rimentaux de Jen George et Dodie Bellamy. Le livre est distribu\u00e9 par Koenig Books et pr\u00e9sente pour la premi\u00e8re fois des planches de la collection de diapositives photographiques de Christina Ramberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of exhibition lies a selection of Christina Rambergs paintings and drawings, which are put in dialogue with artistic positions such as Alexandra Bircken, Sara Deraedt, Gaylen Gerber, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger, Konrad Klapheck, Ghislaine Leung, Senga Nengudi, Ana Pellicer, Richard Rezac, Diane Simpson, and Kathleen White, who extend Ramberg\u2019s understanding of the body as an environment that is closely intertwined with its surrounding, shaped by corsets, hairdos as well as behavioral conventions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cContaining, restraining, reforming, hurting, compressing, binding, transforming a lumpy shape into a clean smooth line\u201d\u2014 is how the American artist Christina Ramberg (1946\u20131995) once described the drawings of corsets in her sketchbooks. Ramberg was one of the most intriguing painters to emerge within a generation of Chicago Imagists. Operating under the influences of Surrealism, she painted cropped torsi, sharply delineated and bound in bizarre variations of corsets, bandages, and textures, that exude an unnerving calm burdened with a conflicted desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works by contemporary and historical positions that dialogically relate to Ramberg\u2019s works, ask about the structures that externally and internally determine our existence and articulate a relation of interdependence between the body and everyday objects, built constructions and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
