You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> constitutes the first artistic proposal by Fanny Gonella, recently appointed as the director of 49 Nord 6 Est\u2013FRAC Lorraine, after having acted for four years as artistic director of the K\u00fcnstlerhaus in Bremen (DE). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conceived as a prolog, an act of openness in view of getting acquainted, this collective exhibition takes the form of an encounter between two entities: Gonella\u2019s last project featured in Germany and the collection of 49 Nord 6 Est\u2013FRAC Lorraine, an iconic location which now begins a new chapter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> relies on mechanisms triggered by resemblance, mimicry, and reciprocity in order to explore our relationship to images in a world in which they multiply endlessly on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visual and gestural similarities between the works question affinities, elicit encounters, seek to find a common thread in this continuous flux. The exhibition proposes a conversation between two approaches to art at an intersection between works of young international artists and those from the emblematic collection of this site, which today is embarking on a new chapter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> explores resemblance and related mechanisms such as empathy and mimicry. Both established artists and young international talents invite you to discover works addressing, or playing with, resemblance. Rather than emphasize criteria originating in the modern era, such as uniqueness, individuality, and originality, the exhibition foregrounds commonness and similarity, whether between the works themselves or between those looking at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite you to peruse a portrait gallery, in the broad sense of the word, which brings together anthropomorphized objects as well as stories of crossing paths. Sculptures, videos, drawings, and participatory installations included in the gallery showcase objects or devices that are made in the human image. They also remind us in passing that we are constantly, and almost unwittingly, finding ways of identifying human forms in our environment. These works also point to the industrial equivalent of resemblance: standardization and replaceability of the individual by motion or speech, thus bringing us closer to the regularity and systematization of the machine. Another area of emphasis is the tension that arises from imitation, and thus from achieving closeness with the Other or with oneself. As we assemble around works that resemble one another, can we test our capacity for empathy? Do we need to see resemblances between each other in order to grow closer? This is what is suggested by the American theorist Jonathan Flatley. For him \u201cresembling another or acting like another\u201d helps establish reciprocity, which constitutes the basis of every emotional connection. The transformation of affective relationships, in the age of digital capitalism, makes it necessary to envision different ways of being and acting together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fanny Gonella prend la direction du 49 Nord 6 Est \u2013 Frac Lorraine ! Apr\u00e8s 4 ans en tant que directrice artistique de la K\u00fcnstlerhaus de Br\u00eame (DE), elle envisage cette premi\u00e8re exposition comme un prologue, un acte d\u2019ouverture, afin de faire connaissance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vous me rappelez quelqu\u2019un<\/em> s\u2019appuie sur les m\u00e9canismes activ\u00e9s par la ressemblance, le mim\u00e9tisme et la r\u00e9ciprocit\u00e9 pour interroger notre rapport aux images dans un monde o\u00f9 elles se propagent sans fin au quotidien. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les similitudes visuelles et gestuelles entre les \u0153uvres questionnent les affinit\u00e9s, induisent des rencontres, cherchent \u00e0 retrouver un fil dans ce flux continu. L\u2019exposition propose une conversation entre deux approches de l\u2019art o\u00f9 se rejoignent des \u0153uvres de jeunes artistes internationaux et celles de la collection embl\u00e9matique de ce lieu, qui commence aujourd\u2019hui un nouveau chapitre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La performance Exchange of Handwriting<\/em> de Jiri Skala est \u00e0 exp\u00e9rimenter chaque mois :

Vous me rappelez quelqu\u2019un<\/em> explore la ressemblance et les m\u00e9canismes qui lui sont li\u00e9s tels que l\u2019empathie ou le mim\u00e9tisme \u00e0 travers des \u0153uvres d\u2019artistes internationaux parlant ou jouant avec la ressemblance. Ici, au lieu de souligner des crit\u00e8res ancr\u00e9s dans l\u2019\u00e8re moderne tels qu\u2019unicit\u00e9, individualit\u00e9 et originalit\u00e9, se placent au premier plan le lien et la similitude, entre les \u0153uvres elles-m\u00eames et entre ceux qui les regardent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le visiteur est invit\u00e9 \u00e0 parcourir une galerie de portraits, au sens large, qui rassemble aussi bien des objets anthropomorphis\u00e9s que des histoires de chemins qui se croisent. Les sculptures, vid\u00e9os, dessins et installations participatives qui la composent mettent en avant des objets ou appareils qui sont \u00e0 l\u2019image de l\u2019homme. Les \u0153uvres nous rappellent au passage que nous cherchons toujours, presque sans le vouloir, \u00e0 identifier des formes humaines dans notre environnement. Elles pointent \u00e9galement l\u2018\u00e9quivalent industriel de la ressemblance : l\u2019uniformatisation, l\u2019interchangeabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019individu par le mouvement ou la parole, nous rapprochant ainsi de la r\u00e9gularit\u00e9 et de la syst\u00e9matisation de la machine. L\u2019accent est \u00e9galement mis sur la tension qui na\u00eet de l\u2019imitation et donc du rapprochement avec l\u2019Autre, ou avec soi-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En nous rassemblant autour d\u2019\u0153uvres qui se ressemblent, pouvons-nous tester notre capacit\u00e9 empathique ? Se ressembler pour se rapprocher ? C\u2019est ce que sugg\u00e8re le th\u00e9oricien am\u00e9ricain Jonathan Flatley pour qui \u00ab ressembler \u00e0 l\u2019autre ou agir comme l\u2019autre \u00bb \u00e9tablit une r\u00e9ciprocit\u00e9 qui constitue la base de toute relation affective. La transformation du lien affectif, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque du capitalisme digital, rend n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019envisager d\u2019autres mani\u00e8res d\u2019\u00eatre et agir ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qui est Fanny Gonnella ? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Depuis 2014, elle a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9, en tant que directrice artistique de la K\u00fcnstlerhaus de Br\u00eame, des expositions personnelles de Marie Angeletti, Henning Fehr et Philipp R\u00fchr, Sidsel Meineche Hansen, Lina Hersmdorf, Margaret Honda, Nadira Husain, Tomaso De Luca et Armando Andrade Tudela.

Elle a d\u2019autre part r\u00e9alis\u00e9 des expositions de groupe, par exemple autour du champ d\u2019action d\u00e9volu aux femmes sur le mod\u00e8le du roman picaresque ou sur l\u2019extension de l\u2019espace public dans l\u2019espace num\u00e9rique.
Elle travaillait pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment comme curatrice au Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn, o\u00f9 elle a entre autres organis\u00e9 des expositions d\u2019Ed Atkins, Luca Frei, Claire Hooper, Timur Si-Qin et Anna Virnich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En 2013, elle a re\u00e7u la bourse de recherche \u00e0 New York de l\u2019Institut Fran\u00e7ais, en partenariat avec Independent Curators International. Elle fait partie du comit\u00e9 scientifique du programme de r\u00e9sidence de Cripta747 \u00e0 Turin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> constitutes the first artistic proposal by Fanny Gonella, recently appointed as the director of 49 Nord 6 Est\u2013FRAC Lorraine, after having acted for four years as artistic director of the K\u00fcnstlerhaus in Bremen (DE). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conceived as a prolog, an act of openness in view of getting acquainted, this collective exhibition takes the form of an encounter between two entities: Gonella\u2019s last project featured in Germany and the collection of 49 Nord 6 Est\u2013FRAC Lorraine, an iconic location which now begins a new chapter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> relies on mechanisms triggered by resemblance, mimicry, and reciprocity in order to explore our relationship to images in a world in which they multiply endlessly on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visual and gestural similarities between the works question affinities, elicit encounters, seek to find a common thread in this continuous flux. The exhibition proposes a conversation between two approaches to art at an intersection between works of young international artists and those from the emblematic collection of this site, which today is embarking on a new chapter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You Remind Me of Someone<\/em> explores resemblance and related mechanisms such as empathy and mimicry. Both established artists and young international talents invite you to discover works addressing, or playing with, resemblance. Rather than emphasize criteria originating in the modern era, such as uniqueness, individuality, and originality, the exhibition foregrounds commonness and similarity, whether between the works themselves or between those looking at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite you to peruse a portrait gallery, in the broad sense of the word, which brings together anthropomorphized objects as well as stories of crossing paths. Sculptures, videos, drawings, and participatory installations included in the gallery showcase objects or devices that are made in the human image. They also remind us in passing that we are constantly, and almost unwittingly, finding ways of identifying human forms in our environment. These works also point to the industrial equivalent of resemblance: standardization and replaceability of the individual by motion or speech, thus bringing us closer to the regularity and systematization of the machine. Another area of emphasis is the tension that arises from imitation, and thus from achieving closeness with the Other or with oneself. As we assemble around works that resemble one another, can we test our capacity for empathy? Do we need to see resemblances between each other in order to grow closer? This is what is suggested by the American theorist Jonathan Flatley. For him \u201cresembling another or acting like another\u201d helps establish reciprocity, which constitutes the basis of every emotional connection. The transformation of affective relationships, in the age of digital capitalism, makes it necessary to envision different ways of being and acting together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
