\u25cf After studying at ESAD in Reims, Adriann B\u00e9ghin presents a family of ceramic creatures, for her first institutional exhibition. What are they? What do they want? Where do they come from? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we follow the artist in conceiving of ceramics as a living material, we too can understand how stoneware with a high grog content allows her to play with shapes and textures as close to nature as it gets. The ceramics\u2019 shapes are described with a vocabulary drawn from anatomy, botany \u2014 or adjectives most often associated with the human body. The lumpy grog becomes ‘dermis’ (an inner layer of skin), cracks turn into scars or stretch marks, swelling into curves… Her unidentified objects, halfway between animal and plant, nonetheless evoke very human forms. \u2018I have an intense and intimate relationship with ceramics (…) I try to approach my artistic practice in the same spirit I conceive an ideal relationship with the living world: a relationship of equality, at once <\/em>sober and lush.<\/em>\u2019<\/em>Through her practice, Adriann B\u00e9ghin seeks to draw parallels between our toxic links with the environment and those we have with our own bodies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf Adriann B\u00e9ghin<\/a> (*1995, Toulouse, vit et travaille \u00e0 Lille), dipl\u00f4m\u00e9e de l\u2019ESAD de Reims en 2020, est invit\u00e9e \u00e0 occuper l\u2019espace Degr\u00e9 Est sur une proposition de Marie Griffay, directrice du Frac Champagne-Ardenne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour sa premi\u00e8re exposition dans une institution culturelle, l\u2019artiste pr\u00e9sente une famille de cr\u00e9atures en c\u00e9ramique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ses objets non identifi\u00e9s, d\u2019apparence mi-v\u00e9g\u00e9tale, mi-animale, \u00e9voquent pourtant des formes bien humaines. Les \u0153uvres de la s\u00e9rie Lustful Vegetables<\/em> (\u00ab\u2009l\u00e9gumes lascifs\u2009\u00bb) sont ainsi dot\u00e9es de pattes, de pistils, et prennent des formes parfois vulvaires, clitoridiennes ou encore phalliques. V\u00e9ritables all\u00e9gories des corps d\u00e9viants, ces cr\u00e9atures situ\u00e9es au-del\u00e0 de notre binarit\u00e9 illusoire ne cherchent pas \u00e0 s\u00e9duire via des normes de beaut\u00e9 \u00e9tablies. On pourrait les imaginer se mettre en mouvement telles des \u00eatres anim\u00e9s de d\u00e9sirs transgressifs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les l\u00e9gumes utilis\u00e9s pour ces sculptures ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soigneusement s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s par l\u2019artiste\u2009; ils ne rentrent pas dans les calibres impos\u00e9s par les supermarch\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adriann B\u00e9ghin questionne les relations de genre et de domination dans notre monde contemporain h\u00e9t\u00e9ro-patriarcal. Son approche \u00e9co-f\u00e9ministe l\u2019am\u00e8ne \u00e0 revisiter les mythes fondateurs qui associent l\u2019argile \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de l\u2019\u00eatre humain (Golem, Prom\u00e9th\u00e9e, Parvati, Obatala\u2026). Elle imagine ici une humanit\u00e9 hybride, reconnect\u00e9e \u00e0 la nature.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019artiste a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 le soir du vernissage de l\u2019exposition au Frac Lorraine, le 7 septembre 2023, une performance pour accueillir dans l\u2019espace Degr\u00e9 Est ses sculptures et cr\u00e9atures en c\u00e9ramique appel\u00e9es les Lusftful Vegetables<\/em>. Ces objets non-identifi\u00e9s, d\u2019apparence mi-v\u00e9g\u00e9tale, mi-animale, mi-humaines sont dot\u00e9s de pattes, de pistils et prennent parfois des formes vulvaires, clitoridiennes ou encore phalliques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s plusieurs semaines \u00e0 partager son atelier \u00e0 Lille avec ce qu\u2019elle appelle des \u00ab corps \u00bb, l\u2019artiste a souhait\u00e9 en prendre soin. Elle les a laiss\u00e9 raisonner, elle les a chatouill\u00e9s, caress\u00e9s, avant qu\u2019elles ne soient fig\u00e9es par la cire d\u2019abeille le temps de l\u2019exposition. La cire d\u2019abeille d\u00e9gouline, gicle \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re des fruits et l\u00e9gumes de l\u2019artiste Stephanie Sarley, ma\u00eetresse du food porn, afin de sceller les Lusfull Vegetables<\/em> sur leur socle. Pour l\u2019artiste, la performance est un rituel d\u2019amour envers ces corps trans(gressifs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
