Attached to vernacular building, her sculptures and drawings reinterpret both their vulnerability and the tenacity that brought them into existence. Her structures evoke with affection and candour the fragility of certain communities\u2019 living conditions in the Southern United States. Elle explore notamment l\u2019histoire de l\u2019esclavage \u00e0 travers des monuments qu\u2019elle ins\u00e8re dans le paysage \u00e0 la lisi\u00e8re du visible, tels des histoires que l\u2019on ne dit pas. Ses sculptures et dessins traduisent son attachement aux constructions traditionnelles populaires, qu\u2019elle r\u00e9interpr\u00e8te en restituant tout autant leur vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 que la t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 qui les a fait exister.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Beverly Buchanan fabrique des bribes d\u2019espace, des structures form\u00e9es par la m\u00e9moire et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience, \u00e9voquant sans d\u00e9tour et avec affection la fragilit\u00e9 des conditions de vie de la communaut\u00e9 afro-am\u00e9ricaine dans le sud des \u00c9tats-Unis. Dans ses dessins au pastel, tout autant que dans ses sculptures en b\u00e9ton ou en bois, elle recompose les volumes, r\u00e9v\u00e8le ou laisse dans l\u2019ombre, et nous rappelle que la perception change selon le point de vue.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Yamba-Guimbi, par des interventions ponctuelles dans les espaces d\u2019exposition, invite \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer la dimension physique du travail artistique, \u00e0 ressentir les tensions entre infrastructures et corps. Elle interroge notamment par le biais du son la question de l\u2019effort et d\u2019un \u00e9l\u00e9ment aussi t\u00e9nu que le souffle.
